"No, I'm getting this" is the response of any true adult when that inevitable moment comes at the end of an outing... the bill.
There are several options for a reply:
"Are you sure?" is the appropriate response. There is also the tried and true "OK" response but it's not said like a normal OK. It is a long drawn out Ok like ohhhhhh-K. (A quick "thank you" is also necessary with both of these responses.)
If you choose to say nothing in reply the payee will likely pay but perhaps do so a little less happily.
Of course then there is the promise that you're then getting that person's next meal.
I was the "Are you sure?" and "Ohhhhh-k, thank you" -er TWICE yesterday.
So thank you Lynn for lunch and thank you Kelly for dinner... I'm getting your next meal!

ha! that's so funny, the first time that patrick and i argued over buying someone else's dinner (it was actually in college) we had a discussion in the car afterward about how grown up we felt.
So funny but true! Glad you had a 2-meal-out kinda day!
